Singapore Airlines has signed two agreements for sustainable aviation fuel and SAF certificates, the carrier announced Monday.
In one deal, the carrier agreed to purchase 1,000 metric tons of neat SAF from producer Neste. The fuel was produced at Neste’s Singapore refinery, blended locally and uplifted to Singapore Changi Airport. This also marks the carrier’s second purchase from the Singapore refinery.
The second deal is for about 2,000 metric tons of SAF in the form of emissions reductions from World Energy, a U.S.-based producer, using a book-and-claim chain-of-custody model, according to Singapore. This method allows the carrier to claim associated emissions reductions without physically receiving the fuel.
The SAF fuel and SAF certificates each are eligible for the International Civil Aviation Organization’s “Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation” program. Corsia-eligible fuels come from producers that are certified by a “sustainability certification scheme” approved by ICAO.
