A Piper Cheyenne PA-31-T1 equipped with P&W PT6A-135A propeller turbines flew with an 11-bladed MT-Propeller. The world’s first 11-bladed aircraft propeller flew with an increase of 15 percent from the certified five-bladed propeller. The jet-noise signature showed the possibility of propeller developments.
The aircraft propeller paired with a low rpm power supply from a turbine or electric engine can bring new possibilities for its performance, noise and efficiency. The maker of the new propeller is a leader in natural composite propeller manufacturing with 30 certified models ranging from two to seven-blade hydraulically controlled variable pitch propellers.
MT-Propeller has supplied propellers for engines that produce up to 350hp as well as for two-blade fixed-pitch propellers. Its propellers have been used on aircraft with piston engines, propeller turbines, airships, wind tunnels and hovercraft. The propellers are also supplemental type certified on Part 25 aircraft.
Nine-bladed propeller
The company has had many firsts, including the first flights of other propellers in recent years. In 2004, the first five-bladed full feathering prop with reversing was certified and became an industry standard. In October 2016, the company tested the first seven-bladed propeller on a general aviation plane. On March 11, 2019, the first nine-bladed propeller started a test-flight program. By September 2022, the 11-bladed propeller was tested.
MT-Propeller is a holder of over 220 STCs across the world and an OEM supplier for over 90% of the European Aircraft industry and 30% of the U.S. industry. Over 28,000 propeller systems and more than 90,000 blades are in service.
