American Airlines on May 1 will tweak its boarding process and allow first- and business-class customers to preboard, joining ConciergeKey status members, the carrier announced Wednesday. AAdvantage status members keep the same group they currently have when traveling in the main cabin.
The carrier also is adding five minutes to the boarding process, so Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft will have 35 minutes to board, while Boeing 737, Airbus A321 and all widebody aircraft will have 40 minutes, according to American.
The carrier last fall launched new boarding technology that enables it to better ensure passengers board with their assigned group, and began rolling it out more widely in November. The technology currently is available to about 90 percent of customers, with the remaining 10 percent to be included by the end of 2025, according to American.
