Indian Budget Hotel Giant Oyo Again Expanding in U.S.

Indian budget hospitality giant Oyo is continuing its revived expansion in the United States and to date in 2025 has added 150 properties there, with plans to open another 150 by year-end, the company announced.

The new properties have opened in California, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Texas and Virginia, according to the company, and 10 of them have more than 100 rooms.

Oyo now has more than 300 properties in the U.S., a spokesperson told BTN.

Oyo, which holds thousands of properties in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, has targeted the United States before. The company in 2019 began to rapidly expand in the U.S. after announcing it would invest $300 million into the effort but by 2021 had reversed course, laying off U.S. staffers and indicating it would focus its expansion efforts elsewhere.

In 2024, though, Oyo’s parent company, Oravel Stays, purchased G6 Hospitality, the parent of economy brands Motel 6 and Studio 6, from Blackstone Real Estate for $525 million. Oyo this week told BTN the new U.S. properties are Oyo-branded, not Motel 6.

Oyo in a statement said it would “continue to accelerate its U.S. portfolio growth through organic expansions, partnership-driven signings and strategic conversions,” noting it was targeting the U.S. Sun Belt and Great Lakes regions in particular.

Oyo added it “is also investing in its technology to further enhance the traveler and partner experience, with upcoming upgrades to its mobile app, AI-powered pricing, and loyalty rewards programs.”
