Garmin Autoland and Autothrottle certified for King Air 350 retrofit installation

Garmin announced on Wednesday that Garmin Autoland and Garmin Autothrottle have received FAA certification for retrofitting G1000 NXi-equipped King Air 350.
The autothrottle integration with the G1000 NXi integrated flight deck manages aircraft speed and power while also providing engine protection against potential exceedances. This management helps reduce the crew workload in the cockpit. Garmin claims that the feature negates the threat of possible throttle rollback, provides ITT and torque protection and will automatically activate in an aircraft overspeed or underspeed situation.
In the event that the crew are unable to fly the aircraft, the autoland feature should be able to control and land it on its own, which is particularly important for operations with only a single pilot. Once activated, the system should take a flight path to the nearest airport, initiate an approach to the runway and automatically land the aircraft. The system will communicate with ATC during the event while also providing information to passengers so they know what is happening.

“Nearly 1,000 King Air operators now enjoy the capabilities that the G1000 upgrade has provided them,” said Carl Wolf, Vice President Aviation Sales, Marketing, Programs andamp; Support. “This announcement adds a direct pathway to Autothrottle and Autoland equipage for many of those aircraft. This certification also marks the largest airplane to date equipped with Autoland, and is the eleventh aircraft model certified with this potentially life-saving technology. It’s just the beginning.”
