Flying Heritage museum gives update on reopening

The Flying Heritage and Combat Armor museum has given an update after months of silence, announcing on Twitter it would be opening soon. Walmart heir Steuart Walton’s nonprofit, the Wartime History Museum, acquired aviation artifacts from the FHCAM and made plans to reopen it to the public within the next year. This acquisition was back in August and the FHCAM has remained silent since then, until announcing a return on its social media pages on March 13.

The FHCAM reported it was looking for volunteer docents and noted that additional roles will be available soon. The post announced a late spring or early summer opening date, with a mandatory orientation for all volunteers on April 12.

The museum’s executive director, Adrian Hunt, told a reporter from The Herald that it will take time to open the museum after a three-year closure. He told them that the museum will still operate as the FHCAM, even under new ownership.

The museum was opened by late philanthropist, Paul G. Allen, the cofounder of Microsoft. Opening in 2004, the museum collection included military artifacts like tanks, airplanes and armaments, from the U.S. and abroad. Many of the pieces in the collection have been restored to original flying condition and have the original authentic paint schemes and mechanical systems.

The Wartime History Museum was established in early 2022 and aims to preserve and restore wartime historical artifacts and create new ways to showcase them through live exhibitions, museums and public spaces, or even in the sky.

Located in Paine Field in Everett, Washington, the museum is an opportunity to explore war artifacts and multimedia exhibits. According to posts on the museum’s social media pages, the new opening will include new exhibits.

There is no known date for opening, but guests can enjoy a unique experience with multiple aircraft, vehicles and interactive exhibits to explore.
