The DOT and FAA announced on Thursday that Peraton will be the Prime Integrator to lead the ATC infrastructure project.
Peraton will oversee the rollout of the new ATC system alongside the DOT and FAA. The DOT claims that the company’s expertise in integrating tech platforms aligns with President Trump’s goals and that it has successfully worked with federal agencies before. The project has received a $12.5 billion down payment with a first-of-its-kind contract for the company. The contract is reportedly structured to encourage smart usage of taxpayers’ money and discourage unnecessary delays.
“We are thrilled to be working with Peraton because they share President Trump’s drive to modernize our skies safely at record speed,” said DOT Secretary Duffy. “Working together, we are going to build on the incredible progress we’ve already made and deliver a state-of-the-art air traffic control system that the American traveling public — and our hard-working air traffic controllers — deserve.”
The company’s priority will be to complete the replacement of core ATC systems with modern fiber, satellite and wireless technology, which DOT claims it has already completed one-third of. It will also play an important role in acquiring the necessary equipment to support the ATC overhaul, according to the NBAA.
