
Spirit Airlines led in North American on-time performance in April, narrowly beating out regular chart topper Delta Air Lines and moving up from third place in March, according to the latest report from aviation analytics company Cirium.
The low-cost carrier gained 1.6 percentage points from March for an 83.3 percent on-time performance, besting Delta’s 83.1 percent. Alaska Airlines barely led JetBlue for third place (they have the same listed score due to rounding), but the latter improved the most from March, with a 5.4 percentage-point increase to 82.8 percent. JetBlue previously had been in seventh place. WestJet didn’t make the cut last month, but this month returned in fifth place at 82.4 percent.
The overall average on-time performance for April improved 1.3 percentage points from March to 80.8 percent.

Four carriers reported declines in their April on-time performance: American Airlines and United Airlines each were down 0.2 percentage points from March, Frontier Airlines was down 1 percentage point, and Southwest Airlines declined 1.4 percentage points.
None of the North American carriers made the April list of top performing global carriers, which was led by SAS at 88.3 percent.
The top five carriers for April’s completion factor each had results above 99 percent, led by Spirit at 99.86 percent and JetBlue at 99.81 percent.
In April, North American carriers canceled 6,645 flights, down from 9,554 in March.
A flight is considered on time if the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival time.
