Hyatt Hotels Corp. confirmed reports that it recently laid
off 30 percent of the staff at its Global Care Center centralized
customer-support facilities.
Hyatt did not disclose the total number of employees
affected, but a spokesperson cited “the evolving nature of guest inquiries
and shifting business needs” in conducting the layoffs at the centers that
travelers could contact by phone. A Hyatt spokesperson in an email said GCCs in
Marion, Ill., and Omaha, Neb., remain operational.
The spokesperson indicated that dedicated My Hyatt Concierge
employees, who work with those World of Hyatt loyalty program members who have
reached Globalist status, were not affected by the move.
Marriott International last
year laid off hundreds of staffers from its corporate headquarters.
