20-year-old pilot wins $2.4M Hawker 400XP in MrBeast challenge
(Photo Courtesy: YouTube/MrBeast)In a high-stakes competition orchestrated by YouTuber MrBeast, 100 licensed pilots competed to win a $2.4 million Hawker 400XP.
In a video released Dec. 6, the pilots faced a series of elimination challenges, beginning with a team race to pull a 40,000-pound aircraft across a finish line. The opening round cut two-thirds of the competitors.
The remaining pilots then attempted to withstand 60 mph winds from a jet engine without being blown off a platform, a test that eliminated 15 more and left 19 in the running.
For the third challenge, the pilots were flown to 10,000 feet and instructed to choose from a set of briefcases. Ten contained the word “jump,” allowing those pilots to skydive into the next round. The briefcases marked “elimination” ended their bid for the jet.
In the fourth round, the final 10 pilots were tested physically and mentally as they were required to keep a hand on the jet while it was hauled through Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on a trailer. After two hours, competitors had to climb down and continue walking or jogging alongside the aircraft without removing their hands. The endurance trial escalated to balancing with only a fingertip on the jet before the field narrowed to three.
The final three pilots were given one hour to decide who would take the aircraft home. MrBeast provided three briefcases—one containing a golden ticket—and the group agreed that the two who did not draw the ticket would step away.
Jabari “Treezy” Brown, a 20-year-old Jamaican pilot, selected the winning briefcase and secured the jet. Brown said he hopes to use the aircraft to launch a charter company. View this post on Instagram A post shared by @capt.treezy
“This is my brand-new jet, let’s go!” Brown said after winning.
The other two pilots did walk away with $20,000 each for their participation.
Since its release, the video has drawn more than 70 million views. MrBeast is known for orchestrating elaborate challenges and for his philanthropic efforts. And this isn’t the first time the 27-year-old has given away a private jet in this manner.
In July, MrBeast challenged a pilot to spend 100 days inside a $2.5 million Hawker 800XP. If he did, he could keep it.
The pilot made it 100 days and won the jet.
